Improved image quality and ZEISS IR Boost Technology
The Secacam 3 is ZEISS’s most advanced trail camera, designed to excel in low-light and night-time conditions. Key upgrades include:
- A new chipset for improved image processing and H.265 compression, enabling faster transmission and clearer videos.
- Larger sensor pixels, four times the size of those in Secacam 5/7 cameras, providing superior light efficiency and enhanced image quality.
- An optimised 940nm IR image pipeline for better infrared photography.
16:9 image and video format, for more horizontal detail
While the Secacam 3 shares a 60° horizontal Field of View (FoV) with its predecessors, the lens and sensor configuration deliver a slightly narrower vertical FoV. This design maximises the horizontal plane, allowing birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts to observe a wider area, increasing the likelihood of identifying additional species.
New PIR Fresnel Lens for Enhanced Detection
The updated PIR Fresnel lens features a shiny surface, focusing infrared light with greater accuracy while reducing scatter. This improvement delivers:
- Better motion detection precision, especially for smaller or more distant subjects.
- Up to 5m increased detection range, making the sensor more sensitive to movement.
Integrated Memory and USB-C File Transfer
With 32GB of built-in storage, the Secacam 3 offers increased reliability by eliminating the risk of SD card corruption or poor contact. This design also improves security, as the internal memory cannot be removed by third parties.
For convenient file transfer, the camera supports USB-C connectivity, allowing users to copy files directly to an external thumb drive while in the field.
New Over-The-Air (OTA) Firmware upgrades
OTA firmware updates allow users to update camera firmware without the need to download it onto an SD card and manually transfer the updates. This process works as follows:
- When the camera is turned on, it checks if new firmware is available. If so, it downloads the firmware files.
- Once downloaded, the user can initiate the firmware update by navigating to the menu and selecting "Firmware Update."
Benefits:
- Users no longer need to worry about identifying the correct firmware file and will always have the latest functions available (e.g., live streaming) as soon as they are released.
- In a future app release, users will also be able to initiate firmware updates directly through the app.
ZEISS SecaTrack
Coming in 2025, ZEISS SecaTrack is a new service designed to increase the chances of recovering a stolen camera. SecaTrack enables users to locate their camera if it has been removed from its installed location. It will be available for Secacam 3, 5, and 7 models following a corresponding firmware update.
- The service needs to be activated in the app and will be integrated into the subscription.
- When the camera is turned off, it will continue to send its GPS position every 10 minutes to the ZEISS Secacam App. The camera also captures an image each time it sends its location.
- This functionality allows users to track the camera's position and potentially identify the individual who took it.

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.

This product has been thoroughly tested by our team of photographers and we are happy to give a 6 month warranty as a result. The number of tests depends on the individual product but we are confident in this product having tested all the major functions. Anything that isn’t as you would expect, we then make a note of and show this in the condition notes on the page.
