ZEISS DTI 4/35 Thermal Imaging Camera Summary
The ZEISS DTI 4/35 Thermal Imaging Camera takes image quality to new heights, building on the features of the DTI 3 GEN 2. The key difference is its higher resolution 640 x 512px sensor, which results in even better image quality across all zoom levels, plus an extended detection range.
This enhanced resolution allows for increased detail recognition and delivers sharp, high-contrast images even at longer distances. For avid birders seeking absolute certainty in their observations, the right equipment is essential, which is met by the ZEISS DTI 4, a thermal imaging camera that consistently delivers top-notch performance. Its combination of compact size, high-resolution 640 x 512 sensor, and ZEISS Signal Image Processing (ZSIP) technology, ensure consistently high-contrast and detailed image quality, even over long distances.
The ZEISS DTI 4/35 in particular, is perfectly suited for observing in dense, overgrown, and wooded areas. With a generous field of view of 22 metres at 100 metres, combined with outstanding image processing quality, the DTI 4/35 enables precise detection of heat sources in intricate and obstructed environments.
The DTI 4 range of ZEISS Thermal Imaging Cameras is available in two focal lengths, with this DTI 4/35 and the DTI 4/50. With its 50mm focal length, ZEISS provides an exceptional detection range of over 2,500 metres with the DTI 4/50.

ZEISS DTI 4/35 Thermal Imaging Camera in More Detail
High resolution sensor
The ZEISS DTI 4 boasts a 640 x 512 pixel sensor, providing exceptional detail recognition and improved image quality across all zoom levels. Thanks to the larger sensor size, the camera offers a longer detection range with reduced noise, ensuring clearer and more precise images even at extended zoom levels. This enhancement allows for superior detail detection, making it ideal for capturing distant subjects with exceptional clarity.
Smart features for extended battery life
The ZEISS DTI 4 offers a smart standby feature that extends its already impressive 7-hour battery life. When exploring nature, power sources may be distant, making portable chargers essential. However, with the DTI 4's energy-efficient smart standby mode, you can conserve battery power during periods of inactivity. This means the camera will remain ready to capture the next moment of excitement while preserving battery life for extended usage, making it an ideal companion for multiple birding trips without the need for frequent recharging.
Three observation modes for any situation
Different environmental situations require a different instrument setting and the DTI 1 has three pre-programmed observation modes: universal, detect and fog. Detection mode highlights heat sources while reducing the cold background, which allows you to see animals behind trees and bushes better than before.
8 Different colour modes
ZEISS thermal imaging cameras offer eight different colour modes, so you can choose the setting which best fits your needs.
- Black hot and white hot render images with a high level of contrast.
- Red hot allows for a fast detection of heat sources in vast vegetation
- Rainbow is ideal for identifying the smallest differences in temperature
Four additional colour modes have been redesigned to reduce the glare of the screen in a dark environment and reduce eye strain:
- Red Hue mode more easily adjusts your eyes to the darkness
- Dark Hue is easier on your eyes by using low luminescence colours
- Green Hue shows plenty of detail at low screen brightness
- Night Eye highlights the warmest areas of the thermal image in a pleasant sepia tone
Movement Alert
Equipped with a Movement Alert feature, the ZEISS DTI 4 promptly notify you of any heat source movement within the image. Whether through an inconspicuous LED signal atop the device or by activating the display, you will be alerted to potential changes in the thermal scene, ensuring you never miss a crucial moment.
High Frame Rate for longer duration observation
The ZEISS DTI cameras featuring a display frame rate of 50 Hz. A higher display frame rate results in decreased flickering of the image, thereby reducing eye strain when using for several hours at a time.
Picture-in-Picture (PiP)
The picture-in-picture function of the ZEISS DTI overlays the zoomed image on the visual image. This is useful when you want to keep sight of the animal you are observing in zoom mode, even if it makes sudden movements.
Hot Tracking mode
In 'Hot Tracking' mode, the warmest source in the image is framed with a red square, which makes finding heat sources in densely overgrown areas and tracking them far easier.
Efficient Shortcuts
Streamline your thermal imaging experience with the DTI 4's convenient shortcuts. Say goodbye to navigating through menus for basic functions. The preprogrammed button combinations grant you quick access to various settings, including capturing pictures, recording videos, and switching between different modes. With these intuitive shortcuts at your fingertips, you can effortlessly control and enhance your observation process, maximising productivity and ease of use.
Enhanced Navigation with Compass Overlay
Navigate your birdwatching adventures with ease using the compass overlay on the DTI 4. This feature allows you to accurately determine the direction of the observed bird or orient yourself in the field. Whether you're birdwatching alone or in a group, the compass overlay aids in coordinating locations and observations, providing valuable guidance for a seamless birdwatching experience.
Customisable for quicker operation
When it comes to thermal imaging cameras, every viewer has their own personal preferences. In order to meet this, the DTI's now offer the ability to select exactly which colour modes are active and which are not, so you only have to click through the ones you want to use. The same applies to the zoom level setting, whereby you can now limit the maximum zoom level to your liking.
