Sony FE 16mm f/1.8 G Lens Summary
Sony is expanding its range of ultra-wide-angle prime E mount lenses with the recently developed Sony FE 16mm f/1.8 G Lens. This provides an alternative to existing models such as the FE 14mm f/1.8 G, with the added benefit of accepting 67mm threaded filters while remaining extremely compact and lightweight.
A 16mm lens of this calibre is well-suited to commonplace ultra-wide subjects, including landscapes, interiors, architecture, and cityscapes, as well as vlogging and video, where this focal length enables creative wide-angle compositions.
The lens features two XD linear motors, which deliver fast, precise, and reliable AF for both stills and video, with support for 120fps burst shooting and 240fps video tracking. Sony has largely corrected focus breathing with the FE 16mm f/1.8 G, enabling moviemakers to pull smooth focus without distracting perspective shifts. Its compact size is also ideal for filmmaking with smaller gimbals such as the DJI RS 4 Mini. An aperture de-click switch further enhances usability for moviemakers and vloggers, with silent exposure stepless adjustments.
A sophisticated optical design with three ED, one Super ED, one aspherical, and two AA elements delivers high resolving power and sharp details from edge to edge. Sony has also included controls that allow you to customise the lens to suit individual workflows, and applied a front fluorine coating, which reduces cleaning and maintenance.

A new ultra wide prime for stills and video
The Sony FE 16mm f/1.8 G fills a gap in Sony’s full-frame ultra-wide prime lineup, sitting between the existing FE 14mm and FE 20mm options. The 16mm is an excellent choice for photographers and videographers who need a versatile, lightweight, and filter-friendly lens.
Unlike the 14mm f/1.8 GM, the 16mm version allows for the use of standard 67mm screw-on lens filters. Landscape photographers can use circular polarisers (CPLs) to cut glare, ND filters can be used to control exposure, and filters like the PolarPro 67mm Shortstache Everyday Mist create atmospheric effects for moviemaking and stills.
The Smallest Ultra Wide Prime from Sony

A lens for Vlogging and Video
With its 107° angle of view, the 16mm focal length provides a natural, immersive perspective for vlogging, allowing creators to capture themselves and their surroundings without too much distortion.
Dual XD linear motors enable fast, quiet autofocus, which is crucial for maintaining smooth focus transitions while recording and Sony has minimised focus breathing, allowing for professional-looking focus pulls without an unnatural shift in framing.
For stabilised handheld footage, the lens is fully compatible with Active Mode and Dynamic IS on supported cameras such as the ZV-E10 II, which digitally reduces shake for smoother walking shots.
Thanks to its portable design this lens pairs perfectly with smaller gimbals like the DJI RS 4 Mini for agile video work. Additional video-focused features include an iris lock switch to prevent accidental aperture changes and a de-clickable aperture ring for silent exposure adjustments.

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.
