Sigma 65mm f/2 Contemporary Lens For Sony E More Detail
The 65mm Contemporary lens brings a high level of optical performance even at its maximum aperture of f/2. Axial chromatic aberration tends to be noticeable with this focal width is corrected with the use of SLD glass, allowing it to resolve extremely fine detail. A pair of glass-moulded aspherical lenses are used to correct spherical and coma aberrations, as well as astigmatism, while help keep the lens small and lightweight.
Precision-cut aluminium parts give the barrel a sleek, stylish finish and provide superb durability, which improves the overall quality of the model. Metal materials are also used internally for added robustness. These high-precision components are crafted with in accordance with the most accomplished models in ranges of Sigma lenses.
The cover ring between the focus ring and the aperture ring has hairline processing that is also used for the rear cylinder of the Art line. This covering functions as a finger hold when attaching or detaching the lens providing yet more ergonomic usability.
An aperture ring allows photographers to change apertures on the lens itself, or in-camera when Auto is selected. Special sound-deadening grease has been used to give the ring a precise and smooth action. Included in the box is the regular plastic SIGMA lens cap, as well as a magnetic metal cap. Our Verdict
Despite being quite versatile, 65mm is perhaps not the first focal length photographers and videographers will think of when considering their next lens purchase. The 65mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary lens from Sigma seeks to challenge that with an entirely new design at this short telephoto focal width, which could be turned towards a number of subjects. These might include portraits, tighter environmental shots, detail shots and more. The lens is considerably lighter than similar models weighing just 405g and is extremely compact at just under 75mm. This allows photographers and video makers to bring a fast, short telephoto prime in their bag without a weight penalty.
The lens complements the 24mm f/3.5 DG DN Contemporary and 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary lens released at the same time, all three of which are beautifully designed with all-metal construction. Optics used for these new models deliver excellent results, with crisp, sharp images and videos right across the frame. There is virtually no vignetting and users can shoot towards the sun or other light sources whilst retaining excellent contrast and well controlled flaring. Sigma consistently achieves complete integration with Sony E-mount camera AF systems allowing photographers to opt for their excellent lenses whilst still enjoying industry leading focus capabilities. All in all this is an extremely competent Contemporary lens model which will satisfy the most demanding of users seeking a lightweight, compact short telephoto prime.
