In Detail
The Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary brings a high level of optical performance even at the maximum aperture of f/2. Axial chromatic aberration is corrected with the inclusion of SLD glass. The placement of high-refractive index elements provides effective correction of various types of aberration, while keeping the amount of glass used to a minimum. This allowed Sigma to keep the lens compact and lightweight at just 325g and 70mm × 65.4mm, an ideal size on a mirrorless camera body.
Advanced production technology is implemented at SIGMA's production site in Japan. Optics include three high-precision glass-moulded aspherical lenses which provide correction of spherical aberration and field curvature for well controlled results. The lens design also provides a very good correction of sagittal coma aberration, making it suitable for capturing fine details required for night sky photography.

Our Verdict
Sigma continues to redefine optical standards across all of its’ ranges with renowned high quality Art, Sport and Contemporary lenses. This 35mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary model for Sony, brings an outstanding optical design with impressive build quality, well-suited to professional and enthusiast use, particularly considering its’ modest price. Video and stills are detailed, sharp and easily keep pace with high resolution full frame Sony sensors. Despite delivering such quality, the lens weighs only 325g whereas the equivalent 35mm f/1.4 Art lens comes in at 755g. This allows users to bring this and the other two primes in their bags for all day shooting across a broad range of subjects.
The others in the trio are the 24mm f/3.5 DG DN Contemporary and 65mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary. Together they make for a compelling argument to acquire all three models as they complement each other perfectly. With fast, bright apertures, f/2 in this case, they perform admirably in low light, provide versatile shooting experiences with close-focus as well as full integration with Sony systems. Integration includes lens based correction and AF compatibility, with optional manual or auto aperture control. With such competent optics and useful features combined with lightweight, compact, yet robust build quality we are convinced the 35mm f/2 will be extremely popular with many Sony users.
