Nikon Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens Summary
Joining the growing Z-mount line-up is this versatile standard zoom – the Nikon Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens. A combination of features ensures this is an excellent all day walk-around option for anything from portraits and landscapes, to architecture and snap shots of subjects which inspire. The Z 28-75mm also makes a great choice for video shooters thanks to fast, quiet AF, smooth aperture changes and well suppressed focus breathing.
Results are excellent throughout the range when mounted on a full frame or crop sensor Nikon mirrorless camera, with plenty of light gathered through the larger Z mount opening. The wide 9-bladed diaphragm, with bright fixed f/2.8 aperture renders beautiful bokeh, with soft out of focus backgrounds, and excels for handheld shots in darker, low light environments.

Nikon Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens in More Detail
The addition of the Nikon Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Lens provides a cost-effective and lighter alternative to the Nikon Nikkor Z 24-70mm F/2.8 S in Nikon’s mirrorless lens range. The newer Z 28-75mm has a slightly shorter zoom range, but still offers a wide enough angle of view at 28mm for a wide variety of shooting situations. Add in a close minimum focus distance of just 19cm at this wider end of the zoom and you have an extremely versatile alternative to the S-Series model.
15 lens elements include five special optical elements, which help control aberrations and deliver high resolving power for photos and videos. This allows the lens to maintain sharp detail with good contrast on even higher megapixel sensors found in cameras like the 45+ MP Z7 II.
A control ring offers customisation for precise manual focusing as well as custom settings which including aperture, ISO or exposure compensation. This facilitates a quick workflow to make adjustments when capturing even fast moving subjects, without needing to take your eye from the camera’s viewfinder.
If you find yourself out during inclement weather the 28-75mm is plenty robust, featuring an internal focusing mechanism combined with weather sealed gaskets, making the lens resistant to dust and water drips. Topping off the benefits of this handy zoom is a compact filter thread of just 67mm along with a relatively compact size of 75mm x 120.5mm allowing it to accompany any excursion where weight is a concern.

Our Verdict
Nikon mirrorless users are enjoying a growing number of lens options being released to make the most of the highly accomplished Z mount system. The addition of this Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 lens is most welcome, offering a versatile and lightweight zoom range, bright fixed aperture and excellent results throughout. It is well suited to photo and video, sure to be embraced by hybrid shooters thanks to well controlled focus breathing, smooth aperture changes and fast, quiet AF. Users will benefit from these features, as well as short minimum focus distances for close-up shots, weather resistance and an overall compact and light form with cost-effective 67mm filter thread.
The Z 28-75mm excels in several shooting situations you’re sure to encounter, with the bright f/2.8 aperture employing a 9-bladed diaphragm design. This allows you to gain a shallow depth of field for portraits and other subjects, with smooth blurry backgrounds, together with excellent light gathering capabilities for dimly lit situations. This complements the walk-around benefits perfectly, as many will be handholding when shooting. If you enjoy shooting a diverse range of subjects with one lens, appreciate sharp results and the benefits a faster aperture brings, this could be the perfect choice for you.
