Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S Lens Summary
The Nikkor Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S joins Nikon’s mirrorless S-Line which are comprised of the most optically refined lenses available for the Z-mount system. This classic ultra wide-angle focal width zoom is the final lens to complete the essential ‘trinity’ for Nikon’s mirrorless system offering, together with the Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S and Nikkor Z 70-200mm VR S lens. Covering all of the major focal distances with the fastest aperture possible allow pros and enthusiasts to gain the best advantage with these three models.. The lens lends itself perfectly to both stills and video shooting, with minimal focus breathing or shift and a smooth, silent autofocus motor. Unlike many ultra wide-angle zooms, the Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S has an almost completely flat front element, allowing regular lens filters including the new 112mm Neutral Colour Filter lens protector and the 112mm Circular Polarising Filter II.
Designed for professionals the Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S is currently the world’s shortest ultra-wide f/2.8 zoom of this kind, ideal for landscape photography, architecture and night photography. Optics have been employed for corner to corner sharpness, even when wide open and light fall off is extremely well controlled. As expected on a lens of this quality Nikon has used Nano Crystal and ARNEO Coatings to reduce ghost and flare considerably, ideal for subjects for which this lens is intended. Despite the 16 elements in 11 groups (including 4 ED elements and 3 aspherical elements), the lens only weighs 650g. and delivers advanced S-Line quality with consistently high quality results. Extensive weather sealing has been employed throughout to ensure this lens will function in extreme conditions as required by enthusiasts and working professionals out in the field.

Our Verdict
Nikon’s mirrorless Z-mount cameras are revered for the quality of which they are capable and this highly anticipated Nikkor Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S completes the trinity of lenses for the system. Nikon has achieved the impossible with such a lightweight, compact ultra-wide zoom, which is certain to impress not just for its optical quality but also for managing to design a lens which is so compact at this focal range. The bright constant aperture will appeal to photographers who shoot at night, weather that be stars, aurora or milky way, as well as those who will employ this model for video.
Results from the 14-24mm are excellent regardless of whether used by full-frame or APS-C mirrorless cameras. Highly refined images with excellent colour are rendered, extracting all of the details from high resolution sensors.
The ability to use screw-in filters which are essential for outdoor photography cement this option as the clear ultra wide choice for Z-mount photographers. Extensive weather sealing also allows for shooting to continue whilst out in the elements as required by landscape photographers.
