Nikon D7500 Digital SLR Camera Body Only Summary |
The Nikon D7500 is a DX format crop-sensor enthusiast (mid-range) level digital SLR that replaces the D7200 and features an improved set of capabilities, some of which have been borrowed from its big brother, the Nikon D500, which make this a extremely capable and versatile DSLR for all occasions. The Nikon D7500 features:

Nikon D7500 Digital SLR Camera Body Only Features in Detail |
image QualityThe Nikon D7500 inherits the 20.9 megapixel DX format CMOS sensor with no optical low-pass filter from its big brother, the Nikon D500. Although this means a decrease in the pixel count and this might at first glance seem like a dowingrade, in reality it means that the D7500 will produce sharper and more detailed images with less noise than the D7200.
Low Light CapabilityThe Nikon D7500 will feature greatly improved low light capability over its predecessor, the D7200. With a sensor featuring a lower pixel count, the D7500 borrows the same sensor from the much loved Nikon D500, and will benefit from reduced noise from it. Particularly important for shooting in low light, this new sensor means that the D7500 now has an extendable ISO sensitivity down to ISO 50 and up to an incredible ISO 1,640,000, while its native ISO range has improved over the D7200 and now stands at ISO 100 to 51,200. While the vast ISO range might not be used extensively, it means that when shooting at normal ISO levels of ISO 400, 800, 1600 or 3200 your images will feature much less noise than cameras with less capabilities.
Processor & Continuous ShootingThe D7500 boasts the EXPEED 5 image processor, also borrowed from the Nikon D500, an improvement from the EXPEED 4 in its predecessor, the D7200. Alongside this new processor is a continuous shooting speed of 8fps in both DX mode and 1.3x crop an improvement over the D7200 which would only do 6fps in DX mode and 7fps in 1.3x crop. This makes the D7500 a very capable camera for shooting fast paced action such as sports or wildlife.
Video QualityThe Nikon D7500 supports Ultra High Definition 4K video at a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 at 30p (progressive) and it will also record Full HD video at 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60p. With 4K video recording in the D7500 you will be able to capture beautiful ultra high definition movies that are full of detail. The D7500 records in both MOV or map4 formats and in H.264 or mapEG-4 compression.
TouchscreenA very welcome feature on the Nikon D7500 is the inclusion of a 3.2 inch 2,359-k dot tilting LCD touchscreen (also borrowed from the Nikon D500). This LCD touchscreen monitor tilts on a 3-axis hinge and means you can comfortably shoot at a variety of angles, whether it's overhead, or shooting at a low angle you can let the camera do the work while you maintain position.
focusingThe Nikon D7500 features the same renowned and well-loved professional standard autofocus system that was found in the D7200. The Multi-CAM 3500 II system is inherited from Nikon's professional cameras and is sensitive down to -3 EV, so you can shoot sharp images, even in the dark. There are 15 cross-type sensor in the centre that deliver superior subject acquisition. One centre point is f/8 compatible, enabling more lens/teleConverter combinations. |

Our Verdict
The Nikon D7500 has big shoes to fill, but it manages to do just that.
By borrowing some key technologies from Nikon's professional grade DSLRs, such as the 20.9 megapixel DX format CMOS sensor from the D500, the 3.2 inch tiltable touchscreen, and the Multi-CAM 3500 II 51 point autofocus system, the D7500 manages to maintain its form of a mid-range enthusiast level digital SLR while still being powerful enough to give amazingly high quality images.
Continuous shooting speeds up to 8fps will be welcomed by any who shoots fast paced action such as sports or wildlife, and the addition of ultra high definition 4K video recording will benefit both photographs who want to experiment with video and filmmakers looking to upgrade from earlier Nikon models.
Overall, the D7500 is a powerhouse of a mid-range digital SLR that offers supreme low light capability, high quality still images, 4K movies, and precise autofocus.
