Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens For Canon EF Summary
They have done it again with the Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Canon EF. This is the world’s widest 1:1 magnification macro lens for full frame and APS-C EF-mount cameras. This means you can capture true life-sized close-up images as well as shooting architecture, interiors, Astro and landscapes with one versatile ultra wide angle lens and no extension tubes. If you mount this onto an APS-C body it also includes a special +/- 6mm shift function to get straight verticals, which is a very nice touch. The 110° angle of view on full frame Canon DSLR lets you capture the entire scene in sharp detail thanks to 12 optical elements in 9 groups. These include one extra-low dispersion and three high-refractive elements, along with Laowa's low-reflective coating on each optic to deliver consistent image quality by reducing flare and ghosting when shooting backlit subjects.

Our Verdict
There’s plenty for Canon DSLR users to like about the Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens. It’s a solid model made in metal, weighs in at a reasonable 465g and performs extremely well across a range of subjects. You can capture true life-size 1:1 macro close-ups with an ultra wide field of view, as well as fine tune vertical lines when shooting architecture with an APS-C camera. If you enjoy creating smooth defocus areas around your subject, 14 aperture blades help with just that endeavour, whilst the 0.12m close focus distance opens up a wealth of creative opportunities.
The 15mm f/4 Macro Lens measures 82mm x up to 95mm remaining compact enough for most situations and accepts convenient 77mm filters. Image quality counts with macro work and this model delivers very high quality results due to the optical formula employed by Laowa. Other lenses in their range perform similarly well including the 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro Lens for Canon EF which offers up to a staggering 5x magnification. With this level of feature rich design, versatility and good quality results we are glad to see such a cost effective EF lens option for full frame and APS-C photographers.
