Fujifilm GFX 100S II Medium Format Mirrorless Camera Body Summary
With the second-generation camera Fujifilm has transformed the medium format landscape, offering professional photographers, enthusiasts, and hybrid creators a balance of versatility, portability and exceptional image quality. Catering to these priorities, the second-generation Fujifilm GFX 100S II Medium Format Mirrorless Camera Body captures incredible detail from its 102 megapixel CMOS sensor, providing a broad dynamic range and unrivalled image quality in a body, which weighs under 900g.
The combination of CMOS II sensor and upgraded X-Processor 5 seen in the recently released flagship GFX 100 II and X-T5 among other Fujifilm cameras add numerous benefits for the GFX 100S II. These included improved Autofocus with faster and more accurate subject acquisition, wider sensor AF coverage and enhanced subject detection with AI.
Overall image quality is even more refined for this generation, drawing out the highest levels of detail from this GFX medium format camera. Base ISO is lowered to ISO 80, with images showing a wide dynamic range, and you can shoot at a brisk 7fps continuous burst, recording to the dual SD memory card slots. Video creators can record internal 4K/30p 4:2:2 10-bit, and cinematic 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW and BlackMagic RAW recording are supported for post processing flexibility.
Advanced in-body stabilisation technology has been adopted for the Fujifilm GFX 100S II, enhancing its IBIS to 8.0 stops. This improvement allows for capturing stunning medium format resolution images at much slower shutter speeds than were previously achievable.
The mark 2 camera body has also been refined with premium Bishamon-tex leather grip, which improves handling while shooting handheld. The EVF is also upgraded with a higher magnification and higher resolution, for crystal clear previews and framing. Despite these and more upgrades the GFX 100S II maintains low power consumption with impressive battery life of up to 530 frames in economy mode.

Fujifilm GFX 100S II Medium Format Mirrorless Camera Body in More Detail
Unrivalled image quality
The Fujifilm GFX 100S II camera delivers exceptional image quality thanks to the combination of upgraded X-Processor 5 and 102 megapixel BSI CMOS II Sensor. Measuring 44 x 33mm, the medium format sensor is approximately 1.7x larger than a full-frame sensor, and features wide dynamic range for processing, plus broader on-sensor phase detection AF coverage.
Among the many benefits these core components provide for photographers are a lower native ISO 80 for smooth, clean images, and faster 7fps continuous burst shooting. The second-generation camera also supports HEIF files with better compression and higher image quality than JPEG, and you can capture 16-Bit RAW images, and 10-Bit RAW video files in-camera.

G Mount lens compatibility
The large CMOS sensor works in conjunction with ultra high-resolving G Mount lenses in order to reproduce images with incredible detail, ultra-smooth gradations, and delightfully accurate colours. There are numerous options, including the recently released Fujifilm GF 500mm f/5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens, which is the first telephoto for the GFX system to offer an equivalent 396mm (full-frame format).
Along with standard, portrait lenses and zooms are specialist models, which include the GF 110mm F/5.6 Tilt Shift Macro Lens and GF 30mm F/5.6 Tilt Shift Lens, both of which are designed to combine premium optical performance with perspective control.
You can also shoot using renowned Fuji Film Simulation Modes, which render heritage-inspired Film styles straight out of camera, drawing on decades of colour science to deliver beautiful results with little to no editing requirements.
20 Film Simulation Modes
Fuji’s rich heritage in colour science has been extended to encompass 20 Film Simulation Modes, which are all available for the GFX 100S II. The addition of the REALA ACE recipe, offers a slightly reduced saturation and similar tonality to PRO Neg. Std, which is suitable for everyday use.

Image Processing Engine
X-Processor 5 takes shooting speed, colour science and image processing to a whole new level, while effectively reducing power consumption by around 20%. This enables the GFX 100S II to provide a professional shooting experience with quick start-up times, a fast EVF refresh rate, high speed burst shooting and shutter speeds as fast as 1/32,000 second in electronic shutter mode. The outcome is a compact hand-holdable medium format camera, with outstanding imaging potential, which caters to any creative requirement.
Enhanced AF performance
Along with wide sensor coverage featuring 425 phase-detection AF points, the GFX 100S II boasts an updated autofocus algorithm, which is faster and more accurate than its predecessor. X-Processor 5 introduces subject detection AF, enhancing autofocus performance through deep-learning AI technology.
The advanced AF system is now capable of accurately recognising and tracking not only human faces and eyes, but also animals, birds, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, and trains. This feature allows photographers to focus on their creative vision, with the certainty that the camera delivers more precise autofocus results than ever before.

If you need to produce billboard sized images the 100S II has you covered with 400MP ultra high-resolution images. This mode renders equally accurate colours as single shot, and works with just a press of the shutter, harnessing the camera’s IBIS to shift the sensor by a half pixel between each frame.

Our Verdict
Whichever subjects, styles, or situations you encounter, the GFX 100S II excels, offering a new level of image quality that maximises its large medium format sensor. Despite its compact form, it doesn’t lack in specs, being firmly based on its sibling – the GFX100 II, which is also equipped with 102MP sensor and ProRes RAW recording.
This second-generation GFX 100S II introduces numerous enhancements that refine the shooting experience and elevate image quality, noticeable from the first touch with its classy leather finish, sleek metallic exterior, and brighter EVF. Overall speed is also improved, driven by the high-speed X-Processor 5, enabling the camera to shoot at 7fps at full resolution. It records stills in HEIF format and wide dynamic range RAW files with 16-bit colour depth, alongside Fujifilm’s coveted colour rendition, further enhanced by the selection of premium GF lenses.
Body stabilisation has increased by 25% to 8.0 stops, supporting handheld shooting in low light while capturing richly detailed medium format images. Autofocus also sees marked improvements with AI-driven subject recognition and faster, more comprehensive tracking capabilities.
With a lower price point than the flagship model, the GFX100S II offers greater accessibility to photographers, hybrid creators, and production companies working with tighter budgets, while delivering world-class image quality and convenient portability.
