Celestron Nebula Filter for Origin Intelligent Home Observatory Summary

Enjoy the most dazzling views of nebulae with your Celestron Origin when you add this Hydrogen-alpha, Hydrogen-beta, doubly ionised oxygen (Hα-Hβ-OIII) imaging filter.

This specialised filter allows a high throughput of light wavelengths from emission nebulae while blocking other wavelengths that could diminish image quality and detail. The result is bright, colourful nebulae images that 'pop' with detail against the black sky background.

How does the Nebula Filter for Origin work? Emission nebulae primarily emit at discrete wavelengths of light—Hα at 656nm, Hβ at 486nm, and OIII at 496/501nm. By strategically transmitting only these wavelengths of light and blocking the rest of the spectrum, the filter dramatically reduces the effect of light pollution. The “bad” light is blocked while the “good” light associated with emission nebulae passes through to Origin’s sensor.

You’ll immediately notice much higher contrast in your images, especially from your light-polluted backyard! And since the transmission at the critical wavelengths is so high, the nebula will not be dimmed—only the background will be blacker. You’ll also notice some contrast improvement in images of nebulae from darker skies, as the filter serves well in blocking natural skyglow.

Nebula Hunting

The Nebula Filter is perfect for imaging emission nebulae like the North America Nebula (NGC 7000), Lagoon Nebula (M8), Orion Nebula (M42), the Carina Nebula (NGC 3372), and dozens more. The imaging filter offers maximum light transmission in the key Hα-Hβ-OIII wavelengths, producing high contrast for emission nebulae like these.

The transmission spectrum for the Nebula Filter is 85% or greater at key wavelengths (486nm, 496nm/501nm, 656nm) and less than 0.5% transmission elsewhere. As a narrowband filter, it blocks much of the visible spectrum and only lets these specific wavelengths through. Because of this, you should not use this filter while observing or imaging broadband emission objects, such as galaxies and star clusters. You’ll achieve the best results for those objects by removing the nebula filter and reinstalling Origin’s clear optical window.

Main features

Get the Most Out of Your Origin: Enhance your Celestron Origin’s views and images of nebulae—especially from urban and suburban skies. This filter blocks light pollution, boosts image contrast, and darkens the sky background for noticeably better images.
Nebulae Come to Life: This filter transmits only the key Hα-Hβ-OIII wavelengths from emission nebulae, making their colours “pop” from the dark background.

Conquers Light Pollution: This filter allows the “good” wavelengths of light from nebulae through but blocks the “bad” light pollution from reaching Origin’s sensor.

Built for Origin’s RASA Optics: Unlike similar filters with narrower bandpasses, this filter was engineered specifically to work with Origin’s fast f/2.2 optics to allow more of the light you want while suppressing the light you don’t.

Easy Installation: Simply remove the optical window from Origin’s filter drawer and insert the Nebula Filter. It won’t disrupt the optical path of your Origin, and no additional adapters are needed.

Quality Construction: Constructed of Schott glass with anti-reflective coatings, this filter’s surfaces are optically flat and defects-free.

Condition guide

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.

  • Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
  • Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
    • Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
    • Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
  • Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes  with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
    • Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
    • Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
  • Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
    • Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
    • Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
  • Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
    • Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
    • Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.

*All of our used items are listed with the accessories that are included. If they are not listed, then they will not be supplied at the point of purchase.
