Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens in More Detail

Flexible travel lens with amazing reach

An 8.3x APS-C zoom packs a useful 29-240mm (35mm equivalent) focal range so you can capture virtually anything which catches your eye. The lens is ideal for landscapes, garden wildlife, sports and travel, light enough at 310g to be stowed in your kit bag without the significant weight you might expect.

Sharp handheld images and video

Camera shake is a thing of the past with a 4.5-stop optical Image Stabiliser built into the lens. This results in smooth, steady video and crisp, clear stills when handholding, raising to 7-stops with certain cameras, using combined IS with IBIS.

Smooth, quiet focusing

A 7-bladed circular f/3.5-6.3 aperture is great for creative out of focus highlights in your image, and renders smooth bokeh for expressive shots. An STM motor allows smooth, silent and speedy focusing whether shooting stills or movies.

Manual focus and macro versatility

The Canon RF-S 18-150mm IS STM Lens offers the perfect solution for capturing subjects in glorious detail, allowing you to get extremely close to your subject. At 35mm it gives a maximum magnification of 0.59x for near 1:2 macro capabilities.

Lightweight, and compact

The combined weight of the RF-S 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM and an APS-C mirrorless camera offers significant weight savings compared to a DSLR equivalent set-up. Considering its 8x magnification, this has become one of the lightest telephoto zooms in the entire mirrorless lens range from Canon. The lens is available in a kit combined with both of the new APS-C cameras. Choose between the flagship EOS R7 with RF-S 18-150mm IS STM Lens or the all-rounder EOS R10 with RF-S 18-150mm IS STM Lens.

Great results from special lens elements

The lens design is made up of 17 elements in 13 groups and includes 1x UD, 1 x PMo Aspherical and 1x GMo Aspherical. These help to render excellent details, sharpness and well controlled results, while keeping the lens as lightweight as possible.

Looking to sell your Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens?

Our Verdict

This RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens joins the launch of Canon’s entirely new APS-C format mirrorless EOS R system. The lens has been designed to provide a huge 8.3x optical zoom range, while maintaining the lightweight benefits which APS-C format brings. The 1.6x crop factor gets you an equivalent zoom range of 29-240mm, which is ideal for shooting virtually any subject including travel and video.

The lens includes an Optical Image Stabiliser with 4.5-stops of compensation, which rises to 7-stops when combined with cameras like the EOS R7. This is ideal for any of the focal widths the lens offers, as well as when handholding in low light. Canon has designed the lens with their Stepping Motor actuator, which is notorious for providing fast, quiet and accurate AF and combines perfectly with deep learning Dual Pixel CMOS AF II for Human, Animal and Vehicle recognition.

The RF-S 18-150mm lens is even more versatile thanks to high magnification of up to 0.59x at 35mm, providing the ability to shoot macro-type close-up images throughout the range.

Despite all of these features the lens weighs just 310g so you can leave it mounted on your camera all day or pack it in your kit bag without any heavy weight penalty you might expect.
