The EOS DSLR 850D brings tried and tested Canon DSLR technology into a brand-new package. Central to the camera is a 24.1MP APS-C sensor and DIGIC 8 processor, for ever faster operation and cleaner images. The sensor has its own built-in cleaning system, along with a low pass filter and an impressive sensitivity range of ISO 100-25600, expandable to 51200.
Weighing in at a lightweight 515g, the 850D houses all the traits of a full-blown DSLR, but at a more affordable price point, ideal for beginners and enthusiasts. The Aluminum alloy and polycarbonate resin body will be immediately familiar to existing Canon users, with a familiar layout of buttons and controls. Connectivity can be achieved with Wi-Fi for smart device linkup, along with an external 3.5 mm mic jack for audio recording.
Pro quality movies are also achievable with 4K at 30FPS, with a professional workflow for further tweaking of video parameters. Dual Pixel CMOS AF has been added with 45 all cross-type AF points, for the ultimate accuracy across the frame. iTR AF has also been included for more precise focusing and tracking.
Capturing those special moments has never been easier with up to 7 FPS of continuous shooting, Eye AF tracking in Live View and advanced iTR AF with face detection for the most accurate of focus. A Vari-angle touchscreen has been included for selecting focus points quickly and for accessing all menu items. This is also ideal for selfie styled images and video creation.

Canon EOS 850D DSLR With 18-135mm Lens Kit in detail
The Canon EOS 850D brings all the benefits of a DSLR package, along with the included, highly capable 18-135mm Kit lens. Canon has a huge range of other compatible DSLR lenses also available and this can be purchased as a EOS 850D body only option. Both still images and video are catered for in equal amounts, applicable to a large variety of shooting scenarios. From landscapes to portraits, the 850D has your passion covered.
The body chassis itself is made from aluminium alloy and polycarbonate resin, weighing in at 515g, resulting in a sturdy and lightweight, all-day solution.
Central to the camera is a 24.1MP APS-C sensor, working in conjunction with a fast and responsive DIGIC 8 processor, for ever more dynamic range and low light capabilities. Exposure compensation can be easily adjusted via the rear dial, with +/-5 EV in 1/3 or 1/2 stop increments. ISO sensitivity ranges from 100-25600, expandable to 51200, with more cleaner images at the higher ISO range.
focusing speed and accuracy has been enhanced with the TTL secondary image-forming phase-difference detection system, along with phase detection pixels now being built into the image sensor. A total of 45 cross-type AF points are now available up to f/5.6, with the central point available at f/2.8. AF points can be freely selected through the optical viewfinder or by tapping AF points in Live View. autofocus selection is accompanied by various AF zones depending on your subject from automatic selection which includes iTR Face Priority, sianglepoint AF, zone AF and large zone AF. Light metering modes have also been included, which can link to all AF points via the Evaluative metering to spot metering for the most precise values.
The optical viewfinder provides the clearest, direct through lens view of the scene, with all pertinent camera settings being displayed. Compositional information can also be displayed with a grid layout and aspect ratio, along with warnings for items such as Flickr detection. Information can also be displayed on the 3 inch Vari angle touchscreen, which provides a 100% coverage of the scene, with plenty of options for adjustiments and display options such as camera settings and viewing the electronic level.
5-axis Digital Movie IS is now available with up to 5 stops of compensation, further enhanced from lenses that are compatible with Dynamic IS. Stabilised lenses are also available for the ultimate stabilised system.
Still images can be outputted in the RAW and JPEG formats, at the same time or individually, with in camera processing for a final JPEG rendition. While movies can be outputted at 4K at 30FPS with a maximum duration of 29min 59sec. Videos can be outputted in the (PAL/ NTSC) format, with the options of a HDMI mini output and audio recording via an external 3.5mm Stereo mini jack.
Additional features include built-in Wi-Fi for remote control and easy sharing of files, while additional accessories are available to further enhance the camera's capabilities, such as the RS-60 E3 Remote Switch and the E2 Hand Strap.

Our Verdict
Canon has continued their success of producing quality DSLR camera bodies, in the form of the 850D. The 24.1MP APS-C sensor has plenty of resolution for large detailed prints and coupled with the DIGIC 8 processor, speed of operation has been increased all-round. A healthy 7 FPS of continuous shooting is easily achieved, with AF speed and accuracy being better than ever.
The body design follows Canon's usual design principles, with a logical dial and button layout. The multi-angle rear touchscreen is highly adjustable, which is a great advantage for setting just the right angle when previewing video footage. Touchscreen functionality also makes setting of AF points very simple, along with a straightforward method for accessing all the camera settings.
The autofocus system features 45 all cross-type AF points, with the addition of Dual Pixel CMOS AF for more accurate focus. AF points can be selected through the optical viewfinder in a variety of ways, with AF zones easily selectable and set for both still and moving subjects.
ISO sensitivity has a very usable range of 100-12800, adjustable in 1/3-stop or whole stop increments, with ever cleaner images at higher ISO levels. Coupled with the included 18-135mm kit lens, this camera package will fulfil most needs as a cost-effective DSLR solution for those entering photography as a more ambitious pursuit.

Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy.
- Like New – The equipment is in a condition as if you have just bought it from the manufacturer. The item is still considered to be ‘Like New’ even without the original packaging and accessories. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect working order. Lenses are optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Excellent – The equipment should be close to being ‘Like New’ but there may be some small cosmetic blemishes that lower its grade. The product has been fully tested and is in perfect excellent order.
- Cameras – Should have no marks on the LCD screen
- Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements and optically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect the imagery.
- Very Good – The equipment may have some slight cosmetic wear to the paintwork and cosmetic blemishes with only light signs of use and the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – The LCD screen may have small signs of wear that does not affect its display
- Lenses – The mount of the lens will start to show signs of wear
- Good – The equipment is showing more obvious signs of cosmetic wear and blemishes, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen may have scratches or wear that is starting to affect the display.
- Lenses – May have slight dust inside that does not affect images. The mount shows signs of use.
- Well Used – The equipment will show significant signs of wear. The paintwork will be coming away in large areas exposing the metal work, but the product has been fully tested and is in great working order.
- Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body.
- Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens.
