Our Verdict
If you’re a Nikon DSLR photographer who shoots sports, wildlife, birds or other telephoto subjects, the chances are you’ve scouted this lens as a strong contender. The reviews are universally positive with good reason as the 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports Lens is one of Sigma’s most accomplished telephotos. Being a sports model ensures a bright contestant aperture, 11-blade diaphragm and fast AF from the HSM system. These are all essential for fast moving subjects or low light as often the case with its intended subjects.
Results are impressive from this lens thanks to an advanced optical design and you can expect extremely sharp images throughout the zoom range. The ability to extend the lens with Sigma teleconverters will further the appeal with just one or two EV stops of light loss. Similarly users can grab a USB dock to fine tune and update their lens with ease. Build quality is excellent too with comprehensive weather resistance applied in all the right places to bestow confidence even when shooting in poor conditions. We give this a definite thumbs up for serious enthusiasts and pro users looking for a competent, fast and robust telephoto lens.
