Since its original release in 2020, the premise of H&Y’s RevoRing filters is to use one filter across multiple lens sizes, without needing separate step-up rings or mount adapters.
The mark II Landscape Kit released in 2025 includes a RevoRing with other elements from H&Y, which we explore further in this hands-on H&Y Filters RevoRing MkII Landscape Kit Review. The version I tested is compatible with 67mm to 82mm filter threads, which covers virtually all of my camera lenses, from ultra-wide zooms and a 65mm macro prime, to super-telephoto lenses. Other sizes are also available, spanning 46mm all the way through to 95mm.
So, let’s dive in and see if this might be your perfect ND filter kit, starting with some background on the H&Y filter system.
The H&Y RevoRing system is a unique solution that I first came across in 2022 during a H&Y RevoRing Polarising Filter Review. Uniquely, the RevoRing allows you to adjust the size of the filter thread by twisting two outer frames in opposite directions, enabling one filter to be used across multiple lenses, without additional step-up rings, mounting rings or adapters.
Since making that first review I’ve used the original RevoRing Polarising Filter extensively thanks to its clever design. It can be seen in our Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Di III Macro VXD Review, where it proved invaluable for removing frosty reflections and glare. It does exactly what it should by adapting to different lens sizes, so I only need to carry one polarising filter, no matter how many lenses I bring. However the mark II filter takes the design even further, so let’s find out what’s changed.
H&Y saw an opportunity to improve usability with the second-generation RevoRing filter, adding independent locking screws for each of the VND, polariser, and adjustable mount thread. These locking screws allow each independent element to be locked off when needed, adding another level of control to an already well-thought-out system.
As well as locking pins, the mark II RevoRing is compatible with the RevoSwift system for expandability. This means that you can now mount 100x100mm or 100x150mm filters onto the RevoRing MKII, which is one of the main shortcomings of the original RevoRing, which I own.
The H&Y RevoRing Variable ND3-ND1000 and CPL Filter MkII combines two filter effects into one, and is available in four sizes:
This caters to just about any lens for mirrorless, DSLR cameras and even cinema lenses with large front elements.
The Variable ND filter ring covers a broad range between 1.5 to 10 stops of light reduction, and the CPL (circular polarising filter) works as any standard circular polariser, which can be adjusted by rotating the ring to remove reflections, enhance contrast and saturation.
The REVORING MkII Landscape Kit combines the RevoRing Variable ND3-ND1000 and CPL Filter MkII with a Swift Magnetic Bridge adapter and a magnetic 100mm square filter holder, which includes a soft graduated filter set into a magnetic frame.
This provides an great entry point into the H&Y ecosystem, allowing for expansion with an H&Y magnetic filter, solid and variable ND filters, a different graduated ND filter, a matte box, lens hood, or various mist filters. Circular filters attach to the magnetic front adapter, while square filters slot securely into the 100mm holder, as is the case with the included soft GND.
With 1.5 to 10 stops of light reduction, the variable ND filter allows flexible exposure control, which is ideal for landscape photography, where slowing the shutter creates movement in clouds, water, or other dynamic elements in the scene. A VND is also very useful for video, allowing for control over the shutter speed in varied lighting, and there’s an H&Y MkII Video Kit 67-82mm (and other sizes) available specifically for moviemaking.
The downside of an ND, which always reduces exposure by at least 1.5 stops is that it can be slightly limiting in low-light conditions or when shooting with fast shutter speeds in windy environments. You can of course increase ISO, but this is not always the best solution.

Having used the original RevoRing CPL extensively for the past couple of years, I can say that the variable system is almost as quick and intuitive to use. The addition of a VND and three locking switches makes setup slightly more involved, but once everything is mounted, it’s easy to use.
A quick summary:
Once locked in place there is some additional weight to your lens, but it’s only a few hundred grams, comparable with other systems, and not an issue unless hiking long distances and looking to save every gramme. The filter ring remains securely attached even in high winds, which I experienced, and I felt comfortable that the system was held tightly in place.
If I could change anything, it would be having an ND0-ND1000 option, as I don’t always want an ND effect. However, this is balanced by the broad range of densities available, which is useful for such a wide variety of shots. If you’re lucky enough to be out in the field capturing moving water, whether a waterfall, river, or the sea, then a variable ND is extremely handy.
Likewise, a VND works well for creating streaks in moving clouds, and with a 10-stop filter, you can even remove pedestrians from a scene.
I didn’t notice vignetting during my time with the system, though some users have noted it can occur at 16mm and wider focal lengths. A wide-angle lens adapter or bridge adapter can remove any vignetting in-camera, and dark corners are easy to correct in post anyway.
Being fully compatible with H&Y’s SWIFT system allows for quick magnetic mounting of alternative filters. Once you’re done shooting a K-Series Magnetic Holder Cap would be a useful addition, as it protects the filter while leaving it mounted when moving between locations, and this is available separately. For protection the kit does include soft cases for the round filter and 100mm GND, keeping them safely stored when not in use.
This is a very high quality filter, which is made with German Schott B270 glass and treated with advanced anti-reflective and nano coatings. There are nine layers of coating on each side, improving light transmission, reducing flare, and minimising reflections. A waterproof and anti-fingerprint coating helps protect the filter, while also making it easier to clean. A Japanese Nitto polarising film on the CPL renders up to 99.9% polarisation efficiency, which does result in crisp images when the CPL is engaged.
This second-generation RevoRing builds on an already clever idea. The new locking screws make a noticeable difference, especially for photographers who mount matte boxes, as they prevent slippage. The ability to lock off the filter effects also prevents you from accidentally moving the other and having to setup your shot again.
For photographers who shoot outdoors with a VND and multiple lenses within the compatible thread range, the RevoRing system eliminates the need for additional accessories, which can simplify your kit. While it may not be the most lightweight option, it does deliver neutral colours, good usability, great build quality and a unique approach to multi-lens filter management, negating the need for multiple step-up rings.
I regularly use my original RevoRing CPL and the new system addresses the inability to add ND filters, so it definitely comes recommended for landscape photographers.
