Sony have announced two new lenses, the Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS Lens and the Sony FE 200-600 f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens. These are very exciting for photographers looking to shoot wildlife, nature or sports photography and they both offer outstanding performance.
The new FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G lens is Sony’s farthest reaching E-mount zoom lens with an extremely versatile focal range of 200-600mm giving you plenty of flexibility of how you want to shoot.
Using many of Sony’s more advanced lens designing technologies ensures excellent image quality, high performing AF and outstanding control.
High resolution throughout the zoom range |
Perfect for wildlife, nature, sports or anything telephoto, the built in optical stabilisation allows images to be sharp and in focus even at extended super telephoto focal lengths.
Beautiful G Lens bokeh |
Featuring an internal zoom mechanism, the lens feels stable at all times maintaining a consistent balance on the front of the camera . This also helps to retain high resistance to dust and moisture, perfect for those harsh, outdoor conditions. Since the lens doesn’t change in length while zooming, it is slightly longer than the Tamron and Sigma when at 200mm but shorter at 600mm.
In addition, the lens features five ED (extra low dispersion) glass elements and an aspherical element along with an 11 bladed circular aperture mechanism that ensures beautiful bokeh.
The new 600mm f/4 is the latest addition to the flagship full frame G Master series line-up. Sony have included their most advanced optical and mechanical technologies, ensuring exceptional image quality and incredible focusing speed and accuracy that you would expect from a G Master lens.
The 600mm f/4 is perfect for professional wildlife, news and sports photographers looking to capture subjects at great distances with extreme accuracy and detail.
Featuring two XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors, the 600mm GM lens offers fast, precise and reliable AF with subject tracking. Supported by specially developed motion algorithms, the lens is able to provide exceptionally quick, accurate and quiet autofocus performance.
New large XA element delivers superb resolution and bokeh |
With a bright f/4 aperture, the lens is able to capture stunning images even in lowlight. The optical quality is outstanding, as you’d expect from a G Master lens and this is evident in the design. Featuring a large XA (Extreme Aspherical) and an ED (extra-low dispersion) element, effectively suppressing almost all telephoto lens aberrations, it’s also sporting three fluorite elements to minimise chromatic aberration.
The bokeh from this lens is exquisite, as with other G Master lenses. Featuring an 11-bladed circular aperture mechanism that contributes to the high quality of the bokeh.
Weighing in at only 3040g, the 600mm GM is the lightest in its class making it surprisingly portable, unusual for a lens of this focal length. With a lens design based on the FE 400mm GM, the new 600mm lens features a design which is not front heavy, ensuring quicker, more precise panning when shooting handheld.
2 XD Motors for fast, precise, tenacious AF |
Designed for use in harsher conditions as well as fair weather, the new FE 600mm f/4 is built with a durable magnesium alloy and a strong, lightweight carbon fibre hood. The lens is also dust and moisture resistant making it perfect for use in the wild.
Both lenses are due to be available in July 2019, you can view the 200-600mm G lens here, and the 600mm f/4 GM lens here.
