From today, for the next few days, CP+ (the Camera and Imaging Photo Show 2024) is taking place across the other side of the world in Yokohama, Japan. It’s one of the largest photographic shows in the world, and is where many brands choose to show the latest technologies available in the photo / video arena. It’s not something everyone can get to, so with a man on the ground, we’ll guide you through all that’s happening and what we think will be a big deal in 2024!
CP+ is arguably one of the largest photographic exhibitions in the world, and is open to all those with a passion for photography or videography – whether you use a camera, or a smartphone. Some of the largest photographic brands exhibit at the show including Canon, Sony, Fujifilm, Nikon and Sigma to name just a few, with the aim to share the joy of photography. Their moto in 2024 is ‘Nothing stays the same’ and certainly in the fast paced world of photography, there are a lot of new product and innovations coming to the market in the not-too-distant future.

Possibly one of the eagerly anticipated cameras in 2024 is the new Fujifilm X100VI which was announced on 20th February 2024, a few days prior to CP+ kicking off. Featuring a timeless design loved by many, this sixth-generation X100 series camera offers not only fantastic technology within the camera such as 40.2 megapixels, five-axis IBIS mechanism and an advanced hybrid viewfinder, but also has a design that feel inspires and motivates us to actually head out and take photos.
Not only that, the X100VI also echoes the past with 20 Film Simulation modes, allowing you to reproduce some of the classic colours and tones that Fujifilm has been renowned for over 90 years. Those who have owned a Fujifilm digital camera over the past 20 years will know that Film Simulation modes are nothing new, and the X100VI will also feature ‘Reala Ace’ – a film that provides incredible true-to-life colour reproduction, and gives your shots a more analog feel.
We’ve been able to get hands-on with the camera for a short period already. Find out more by watching our hands-on review below. Plus, the exciting news is that we’ve been told by Fujifilm that, despite anticipated high-demand, they are working extremely hard to get cameras into the hands of our customers in the quickest time possible, so watch this space!

As part of Fujifilm’s X Summit held in Tokyo on the 20th February, we also learnt about some exciting developments within their X-Series lens roadmap. Expected in 2024 is the XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 which will sit between their popular XF 10-24mm and XF 16-80mm lenses. At the time of writing, we don’t know too much about this lens apart from that it’ll be ideal to complement the resolution in their fifth-generation X series cameras (such as the X-T5), and will offer enhanced performance and versatility, at an attractive price.
In addition to this Fujifilm confirmed in Spring 2024 some new firmware updates will be made available to a variety of X-Series cameras, to include an update to the focussing systems. The Reala Ace Film Simulation mode will also be added to their X-H2S, X-H2, X-T5 and X-S20 cameras. Also now available are small firmware updates to their XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR, XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR and XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR lenses.
Just prior to CP+ taking place, Sigma announced two new full-frame prime lenses designed specifically for full-frame mirrorless camera systems, in the shape of the 15mm f/1.4 DG DN DIAGONAL FISHEYE | Art and the 500mm f/5.6 DG DN OS | Sports lenses. These lenses will be available for both Sony E-Mount and L-Mount and offer a world of opportunities whether you like to shoot dramatic landscapes with a fisheye lens effect, or aviation, sports, and wildlife in crisp detail.
We’re expecting to start to see these lenses arrive around Mid-March 2024. If you can’t wait until then, we’ve been lucky enough to get hands-on with the 500mm Sports lens to put it through its paces when capturing wildlife. Check out the video below to see how we got on.

On the eve of CP+, Sony announced details of their new FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G lens. This is a lens that covers the focal range that would suit most individuals when shooting ‘everyday’ shots, in a compact design enabling you to carry it everywhere as it wouldn’t take up a lot of space (or added weight) as something like their FE 24-70mm f/2.8GM II might do (it’s also quiet a bitter cheaper too!).
We think that for those shooting video in particular, this lens could be handy, as the autofocus system is nice and quiet, and videographers should find the f/2.8 aperture an advantage. Plus, with the compact design of the lens, for those using gimbals or adding it to a camera such as the A7C II onto a drone, you should fine this ideally weighted.
This is another lens that we’ve been able to have a little play with already, so be sure to check out our video below for sample images, more specifications and further thoughts on the lens.

At CP+ this year, it defiantly feels like quite a time for new glass, and at the show, Panasonic have unveiled the LUMIX S 28-200mm f/4-7.1 MACRO O.I.S.
This is an interesting lens to join the L-Mount range of lenses from Panasonic, offering a lens that allows photographers and videographers to cover a wide-range of scenarios. It’s pretty small allowing you to easily carry it around on your travels, and features a half life-size macro capability – ideal if you love taking close-up shots of flowers, insects or other subjects.
Similar to other lenses in the LUMIX S range, the 28-200mm has been designed to help keep you shooting even in tricky conditions, thanks to its dust and splash-resistant construction and allowing you to shoot in temperatures as low as -10°C. It’s also a great little lens for capturing spur of the moment videos with accurate autofocus and smooth aperture changes.
We’ve not yet been able to head out into the ‘real world’ with this lens as yet, but we hope to be able to soon, ahead of its anticipated arrival in March 2024.

OK, so we know that the OM-1 Mark II was announced a few weeks back, but following on from what many photographers’ favourite cameras was in 2022, we took the opportunity to check out their latest offering. Whilst from the outside not a lot seems new (apart from the Olympus logo disappearing), within the camera there are a whole host of new features. One of most exciting innovations within the camera is their LiveGND feature. This is an in-camera graduated neutral density filter that removes the need for external filters on your lens, and is great for adding atmosphere to your landscape shots, being able to position the graduation as precisely as you choose.
We’ve got a video on all there is to know about the new OM System OM-1 Mark II right here, so be sure to check it out.
